Poor transport investment
Dear Editor, Your recent comment was spot on regarding promises made by this Government on transport investment, and in particular you wrote about on the M6 widening (Let's be honest - there has been a change of policy, Post Agenda, Oct 31).
Sadly for too long now this region has been badly served by government on infrastructural investment. This, coupled with often daft road schemes that have been constructed under their Local Transport Plans by some authorities, has led us to the situation that we are in now - virtual gridlock at certain times of the day.
We have seen headlines in your paper announcing billions of pounds of investment promised over recent years, and here we are today still with New Street Station looking like something from a third world country.
Folk have almost given up now, putting up with the daily grind, expecting nothing more to happen - under this Government at least. The Government's credibility has been shot following press release after release.
There is, however, self help still available to us, and Birmingham City Council actively cooperating with the "Quick Win" initiative to sort out pinch points. We need more local authorities to do the same.
